Holden Releases New ClubSport Racer for India

GM's Australian subsidiary is setting up a one-make racing series in India based around this HSV ClubSport R8 touring car.

Holden may be best known in racing circles for its V8 Supercars racer that competes in its native Australia against the likes of the Ford Falcon and the new Nissan Altima touring car, but it's branching out into India with the racer you see here. Developed by Holden Special Vehicles and Walkinshaw Racing, the ClubSport R8 packs GM's 6.2-liter LS3 V8 producing 536 horsepower. It also has competition-spec rolling stock, roll cage, aero package and bucket seats with 6-point harnesses.

A Kinetic Energy Recovery System like the ones used in Formula One is also said to be in the works, but considering that GM doesn't currently have such a system, we're keen to see where Holden gets it from. The HSV racer is set to form the basis of a one-make racing series in India, a market that is getting more serious about racing after its second annual F1 grand prix just took place there.
