Chevy Sonic Dusk to Dawn at SEMA

Chevrolet confirms Sonic Dusk for production, adding a touch of luxury to its economy sedan.
SEMA my be principally an aftermarket show, but these days it isn't strictly about providing a stage for hardcore tuners to showcase their wares. It's also emerged as an opportunity for carmakers to reveal mainstream models, as General Motors is doing with its Chevrolet Sonic Dusk sedan that was revealed in Las Vegas last year in concept guise. Now production ready, the new trim is expected at Chevy lots in 2014 to give an air of sophistication to the subcompact segment.

"The reaction to the Sonic Dusk concept last year was overwhelmingly positive and proved customers are interested in a more-refined subcompact. We're moving quickly to bring Sonic Dusk to Chevrolet showrooms," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. Coated in a shade of Ashen Grey with matt touches on the grilles, door handles and rear license plate, and stainless-steel lower window moldings, the Sonic Dusk is further distinguished from lesser models with a rear spoiler and 18-inch alloys finished in Pearl Nickel. Inside, the Sonic Dusk features Jet Black leather-trimmed seats with suede accents and Mojave tan inserts.
The cabin is further enhanced with Mojave accent stitching and tan-color door panels with instrument panel accents, and comes with Chevy's MyLink infotainment system. Aping other top-spec Sonics, power comes from the Ecotec 1.4-liter turbocharged engine rated at 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Pricing has yet to be announced but will likely come close to the sporty Sonic RS hatchback that retails for $20,995.
