Racers Customize Toyotas for SEMA

Celebrity Dream Build Challenge contenders include Sequoia drag racer, widebody Camry, Tundra desert racecar and interactive Prius, all designed by NASCAR and NHRA racing drivers.

Toyota tasked NASCAR drivers Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch, and NHRA racers Antron Brown and Alexis DeJoria to create custom cars for its Celebrity Dream Build Challenge to be showcased at SEMA 2012. All four projects have now been revealed and votes are being taken at the Toyota Racing Facebook page. The "Tekked-Out" Prius is the work of Clint Bowyer, who supervised the project at RKM Performance Center. The high-tech interactive hybrid features a 17-inch touchscreen computer, two 12-inch ASUS tablets, and a side-view camera system.

The hybrid's restyled cabin gets 45 feet of fiber-optic lighting and a 16-speaker JBL sound system, custom leather and suede upholstery, imported German carpeting and electric-blue stitching. A lowered suspension courtesy of Megan Racing and EVOD wheels complete Bowyer's creation. Kyle Busch dubbed his Camry the "Rowdy Edition", and employed the services of Detroit Speed & Engineering (DSE) to take care of the details. Adding a custom widebody kit with custom front and rear belly pans was the first course of action, which was followed by a DSE-built front air splitter and rear diffuser and a custom dual exhaust system.

The exterior is finished in colors of black, red, and white, while the interior gets black and red leather bucket seats from the Lexus IS F. The extreme family dragster is the work of Antron Brown who transformed a Sequoia into the "DragQuoia", adding 21.5-inch rear tires and cranking output to 650 horsepower thanks to a TRD-supercharged engine with nitrous injection. 725kg was stripped off the car by extensively modifying the chassis, while inside four individual racing seats and a child seat all get five-point racing harnesses. Safety features include a full custom roll cage and tail-mounted parachute.

Alexia Dejoria had a stock Tundra full-size pickup converted into a race-ready desert Pre-Runner. The body and chassis have been heavily modified, including longer A-arms, trailing arms and huge racing shocks that give 20 inches of wheel travel at the front and 24 inches at the rear. Power comes from a 5.7-liter TRD-supercharged V8 fed by a custom rear-mounted fuel cell.
