Lyonheart K Heading to Production

New convertible version revealed as Lyonheart gears up to produce 250 examples of its neo-retro take on the classic Jaguar XKE.
Lauded as one of the most beautiful cars ever made, the Jaguar E-Type casts a big shadow. So big, in fact, that you could fit several cars under it. Jaguar's own XK coupe and convertible range drew its inspiration from the E-Type (also known as the XKE), and the new F-Type draws a more direct line of descent to the legendary British sportscar. But for those for whom Jaguar's new takes on the original aren't authentic, retro or exclusive enough, an independent manufacturer has a different proposition.

The Lionheart K first surfaced in coupe form earlier this year when its creators vowed to build it if enough prospective clients expressed serious interest in buying them. Lionheart has apparently garnered so much attention that it is not only pledging to build 250 of them - "no more, no less", as it states - but it has also revealed plans for a convertible version as well. Examples of both the coupe and convertible will come out of the same allotment, to be built in Coventry, England, and feature the same fresh take on the E-Type's design, only one in an open-air body-style.
Both will also be powered by the same Cosworth-tuned 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with 567 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque (assuming Cosworth is still around the build them) for a projected sub-4-second 0-62 time and 186mph top speed. Pricing is targeted to come in at less than 400,000 euros before tax (coming down from the previous €500,000 projected price), with deliveries slated to begin early in 2014. 70% of the 250-car allotment will be sold in Europe, 20% in China and 10% in the Middle East.
