Black Series SLS to Pack 630 HP

The ultimate street-legal SLS AMG will add some lightweight carbon fiber and a significant boost in power when it debuts in 2014.

Despite last week's spy shots showing a prototype Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series scorched by fire at the Nurburgring, the German automaker is still going full steam ahead with its ultimate gullwing supercar, hopefully without any more fiery incidents. According to reports, an inside source at MB has claimed that the upcoming Black Series will have 630 horsepower and the ability to hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. To compare, the existing SLS GT has 591 hp and a sprint time of 3.7 seconds.

Appearance-wise, expect to see the production car bridge the gap between the standard SLS and the GT3 45th Anniversary edition that was revealed earlier this month. Enhancements will include a new front bumper, wider fender, more aggressive aero and liberal doses of carbon fiber. The lightweight material will be used for the new hood with a center scoop, larger intakes and a massive rear spoiler. Just 100 units are expected to be shipped to the US when sales begin in late 2014.
