2014 Chevy SS Could Pack ZL1's V8

It's like this: Chevy's updated version of the defunct Pontiac G8 only with the Camaro ZL1's 580-horse V8 under the hood. How could we refuse?

Formerly known as the Pontiac G8, it's been confirmed for a while now that General Motors will in fact be bringing back to the US the Holden-developed Zeta platform (whose platform also underpins the Camaro) in sedan form as the new Chevrolet SS. After Pontiac shut its doors in 2010 and with it the V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive G8 sedan, many assumed that GM's return to building a true sports sedan the muscle to back it up was a short-lived thing, but this development gives purists new hope.

The new Chevy SS is expected to arrive in the US as a 2014 model, V8 engine and all. But the news may even be better. According to a report from GM Authority, Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has been testing a version of the car known as the VF Commodore with a supercharged V8 that could very well be the 6.2-liter, 580-horsepower LSA unit found under the hood of the Camaro ZL1. Nothing is official yet but everything is reportedly already in place to make such a super sedan happen. The only thing left it is to move the steering wheel over to the left side where it really belongs.
