Lamborghini Reveals 2013 Gallardo LP560-4 Super Trofeo

What good would a new supercar be if nobody took it racing? Lamborghini has the answer with its new Super Trofeo racer.

Some may look at a Ferrari and a Lamborghini and surmise that they're basically the same thing. But they're not. And we're not talking about some minute difference here, either. We're talking about their very core - they're raison d'etre, if you will. You see, Ferrari makes sportscars in order to finance its racing department. Lamborghini, meanwhile, has little racing history to speak of altogether, but that doesn't mean it isn't out to change that.

In 2009 the Raging Bull marque launched the Super Trofeo, a spec racing series similar to the Porsche Supercup or Ferrari Challenge - only faster. The series uses racing versions of the Gallardo, and Lambo has just released the latest version. The new Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo follows the new LP560-4 coupe (revealed in Paris) and the Spyder (released just days ago) as the third new variant based on the recently revised model. Unveiled at the Navarra circuit where this year's series wrapped up, the new Super Trofeo racer is 120% more aerodynamically efficient than the model it replaces and offers 50% better brake cooling.
