Ferrari owners from near and far return to Sicily to relive the glory days of the Targa Florio.
Though the Targa rallies of old may have all but disappeared (with notable exceptions like those in Tasmania and Newfoundland still carrying the torch), the legend is still strong. The Targa Florio, for example, stands as one of the most legendary of all. And while it may no longer be run as a competitive event, a minor technicality like that wouldn't pre vent legions of Ferrari drivers from returning to the historic route in Sicily to relive the glory days.
Dozens of owners turned up for the 2012 Ferrari Tribute to Targa Florio from all over the world, including participants from Europe, Canada, the United States, South Africa and Hong Kong. Along 900 kilometers of Sicilian countryside, medieval villages and even a racing circuit, they drove all manner of Prancing Horses old and new, including such notables as a 1967 330 GTS, a rare aluminum '70s-era 365 GTB/4 Competizione and a handful of 599 GTOs, along with the full current range from the factory.
