You’ll Never Have to Leave your Toyota Prius Again

People get overly attached to their cars all the time, but this is taking things a little too far.
Taking a road trip in an all-electric vehicle is a risky business. Charging stations tend to be few and far between so for most EV drivers the scope of their journey is often limited to: home - somewhere within ten miles - home. We know that electric city cars can only handle a few miles cruising in the city on electric power alone; and we're equally aware that the Prius is a hybrid and can thus be taken on road trips without the fear of running out of battery juice miles away from an appropriate power supply.

However at the sight of this camper van conversion, which was unveiled at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, we thought this could be the next evolutionary step in the world of green automobiles. Created by Campinn, the Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) body houses a living area that can be fitted with a coffee table and/or side sofa that doubles as a bed, while 'guests' can get some shuteye in the second bed, located on the second floor. Access to these living quarters has also been made easy via a back door, which is also handy when a bloated bladder needs emptying in the middle of the night.
There's nothing stopping an EV getting this transformation and with it drivers can take to the open road safe in the knowledge they have a contingency plan if (when) their battery dies. Naturally assistance will still be required at some stage, but at least there's somewhere to keep warm. Alternatively anyone feeling the pinch of the global economic downturn can now consider ditching their current digs for one that doubles as a cozy home on hybrid wheels.
