Report: Mercedes SLA Set for Launch in 2013

After a 12-year wait, the Mercedes-Benz SLA Roadster could finally be making its way to production.

Some of you may remember the Mercedes-Benz Vision SLA Roadster concept from the 2000 North American International Auto Show. If you don't, the little roadster convertible was a big hit and according to a report from GoAuto, Mercedes is ready to finally produce a possible SLA in 2013. The production version will certainly feature some changes from the concept, as twelve-thirteen years is a long time to keep the same design.

The car should slide below the Mercedes SLK and run on the MFA platform, meaning a front-wheel-drive model. The Mercedes SLA will feature the A- and B-Classes' motors which will give a potential owner the choice between a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline or 1.8-liter diesel engine. Both motors will be coupled with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. As previously mentioned the Mercedes-Benz SLA Roadster will enter production in 2013 and is set to compete against the Audi TT Roadster. The two-seater cabrio will price around $65,000 Australian.
