Fisker Adding 100K BMW Engines a Year

Fisker will take 100,000 BMW turbo 4-cylinder engines for their new models.

Fisker Automotive has just reached an agreement with BMW to buy 100,000 of their turbocharged 4-cylinder engines (and other components). The engines will make their Fisker debut on their 'Project Nina' models, which are set to launch late next year. The Californian car company has already had a big year with the success of their fully-electric Karma model. This announcement builds on that with a new range of models set to be powered by German engineering.

They will include a mid-size premium range-extended sedan and the Nina, whom Vice President Joe Biden remarked that "it looks like a four-door Ferrari, I can't believe it's only going to be $40,000." Well, the Nina is expected to go for around $50,000 in the U.S. and there will also be a version planned for Australia and opposite side of the road countries ie. a right hand drive version. "The BMW engine was an obvious choice for us, as BMW is known for producing the best and most fuel efficient gasoline engines in the world. We are very pleased to have signed this agreement with BMW," said Henrik Fisker, CEO.

Fisker Automotive's 'Project Nina' models are slated to hit the late 2012 production cycle and become available to sales globally in 2013.
