Frankfurt 2011: 2012 Mazda CX-5

Mazda reveals their all-new compact crossover, the CX-5, at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Mazda is moving ahead with not only a new design language, but also their newly developed SkyActiv technologies, as both are now on display at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show. The production version of the upcoming 2012 CX-5 has now been officially unveiled featuring the new Kodo design theme. Meaning "Soul of Motion," Kodo was first shown on the Shinari and Minagi concepts, but now it's making its first appearance on a production model. The CX-5 is a compact crossover that's slotted below the larger CX-7 and CX-9.

It'll be powered by Mazda's SkyActiv 2.0-liter gasoline and 2.2-liter diesel engines and is considered by the Japanese automaker to be the first of their new generation of vehicles. It's built entirely around other SkyActiv technologies such as an all-new chassis, body, and transmissions. Set to be available in both North American and European markets, the CX-5 will go on sale in the coming months.
