Leaked: Mercedes-Benz F125 Hydrogen Gullwing Concept

Hydrogen cars are coming to Frankfurt thanks to Mercedes-Benz.

What better way to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Carl Benz's first registry of a patent for motor vehicles than to create a new and revolutionary car in his honor? Mercedes-Benz plans to unveil several new production models at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show, such as the SLK Roadster and B-Class models. Their new Hydrogen-powered concept will complement their display nicely, as some photos of the mysterious model have leaked today.

They show off the new model's awesome styling and innovative powertrain. Titled the F125 in tribute to Benz's aforementioned first patent, the concept features gullwing doors and four electric motors. The motors are powered by electric energy generated by a set of hydrogen fuel cells. The Germans plan to launch their hydrogen vehicles in 2014 and have already signed an agreement to jointly produce the new eco-friendly powertrain. The hydrogen fuel cell vehicle can put out 231hp. Performance is also quite impressive, as it can sprint from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds.

The concept can hit a top speed of 136mph. The most impressive part of the hydrogen powertrain is that when full, it can travel a range of 620 miles. It is also equipped with a lithium-ion battery that can be charged and add a pure-electric range of 31 miles. Keep an eye out for Mercedes-Benz's newest model at the 2011 Frankfurt International Auto Show beginning tomorrow.
