Alfa Romeo Updates their 4C Concept for Frankfurt

Alfa Romeo announces that an updated 4C Concept will be shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Alfa Romeo has just announced that they'll be displaying an updated version of their 4C concept at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show. If you don't recall, the 4C concept was first revealed at Geneva last spring to rave reviews. The updated concept has not been altered styling-wise, but it does now have a new "Fluid Metal" metallic silver paint. The first concept had a matte-red paint job. This two-seater, mid-engined Alfa has been confirmed for production, which is set to begin sometime next year.

It'll be powered by a 1.7-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that will be mated to a twin dry-clutch transmission. This engine is also currently used in the Giulietta and produces about 232hp. The 4C concept can reportedly go from 0 to 62mph in less than five seconds and has a top speed over 155mph. The production 4C will also feature a new lightweight construction composed of carbon fiber and aluminum in the body and subframe. Total weight should come in under 1,900 pounds. The 4C also features Alfa's version of the double-wishbone suspension up front and MacPherson struts at the rear, with front/rear weight distribution being 40/60.

And yes, the 4C will be making its way to the U.S. where it'll represent the brand as they make their triumphant return to the American market. This will likely happen sometime in late 2012 or early 2013.
