BMW's new 2-Series is in development now and will feature both a coupe and convertible variant.

The BMW 2-Series is set to launch in 2013 as a two-door spin-off of the 1-Series. The 2-Series will sit on the F20 platform and feature some similar styling to the new 1-Series hatchback. The 2-Series will feature both convertible and coupe variants. The 1-Series hatchback will lend its headlight design to the new BMW range, while a new and more aggressive front bumper is expected. The rear will be updated a bit yet stay true to BMW form, featuring LED-affixed L-shaped taillights.

Power for the 2-Series in Europe is expected to come in the form of the 1.6-liter TwinPower turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine that puts out 170hp. There will also be a 2.0-liter diesel engine that can churn out 181hp. There could also be a 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that will be shared with the 1-Series. The engine can put out between 250hp and 350hp. Pricing for the 2-Series should be above the 1-Series and it could feature some high-end options from the German automaker's 3- and 5-Series.
