If I were Hyundai, I'd resurrect Vector and market that as my high end nameplate before putting a 100k Hyundai on the market.
Isn't Lotus having financial woes? What about Saab? I think Hyundai would be better off acquiring one of those Marques as a platform for their higher end offerings. I don't think Hyundai has enough clout for a 80-100k offering...
I don't think their first foray into the high-end sports car world is going to be carbon fiber...
I agree with reinaldo*. Also hyundai own like 75% of the steel, so price can be cheaper, but the question is hyundai gunna use a carbon fiber shell $$$.

And for everyone saying Hyundai copies other companies on every model- show me something that looks like the sonata, genesis coupe, new elantra and accent; basically everything except the genesis sedan.
Hyundais have never been reliable? I myself own a 2001 Hyundai that has 216,000 miles , and my parents both own hyundais with near 200,000. None of them have ever had any significant problems and they still run great.
Actaully the GTR lost to the Z06 by ~2 seconds, and lost to the ZR1 by about 5 seconds. Funny how when the 2011 GTR beat the 2008 ZR1 by 2 seconds it was a huge deal... The shoe ain't on the other foot, it's thrown in your face.
Haha stupid wars between people who obviously don't know cars. Anyway, i will wait and see what Hyundai can offer. Such cars can either Lift up or destroy a car manufacturer's reputation. Don't expect it to be GTR or Z06 standard tough...

Agreed with. Hyundai is nothing special and cheap copies of other brands. And a fully loaded, frog looking Sonata isn't that much btw..

@edith and stephen, REALLY!?! Toyota has to be ugliest first of all, maybe nissan and kia are worse, but hyundai is amazing! And i drive a mercedes, and have a lexus and BMW. If that doesnt say a lot, then i dont know what does.

I think they will flop on competing with the GTR and Z06. Those are the two best bang for your buck super cars out there. And yes, the Z06 is a super car, the 2012 Z06 just smacked the GTR in Te mouth around the nurburgring. Look it up.

I must agree that hyundais seem to just be copies of other cars with a little touch from hyundai. But building a super car to compete against a corvette certainly shows they have the right stuff and can compete

I'll play devils advocate. Hyundai has come a really long way and hit the nail on the head with the Genesis sedan and Eqqus (sp?). Personally I think the Genesis coupe is a pretty cool ride. I'd like to see what they come up with.

The LFA is a SuperWaste of money.
The LFA a "SuperRice" car? Come on man, I've never seen any non-supercar that uses the precision that an LFA does. It has the engine tuned by Yamaha's sound dept. so it has an amazing note, digital tach/speedometer, and more. The LFA is a "SuperCar"
With the LFA leading the "pack"* perhaps we're coming into an era of what I call: SuperRice Cars (it's no dumber than the term "hypercar" if you ask me)
I'll wait and see. There is no telling what the car would be like judging what kind of car Hyundai produces. I don't expect it to be GTR standard, or any of the others but it should at least be a decent supercar
It might be fast, but can it turn? Will they have the same precision and power as a super car? Or will it be just a car that looks angry and goes fast in a straight line.
Every brand could make a top notch supercar, putting twin turbos on their best engines and designing a fair aerodynamic body and there itbid, but they don't

I don't like hyundais. They're so dull and boring and even though they are getting better they're still not great. And if you honestly think they're the new standard for quality your out of your mind. I do want to see what they do though
Hyudai (fully loaded) can feel better than my cars, only knowing its a hyundai makes you stop and think. Like the Lexus LFA, its quick, but Lexus? Doesnt sound fast.
Also, it always confuses me why there's debate about the ZR1 being a supercar. As Jeremy Clarkson puts it, "it's Enzo fast." I think that's all you need, seeing as it's an accurate statement.

I'm a valet. I park cars for a living. Hyundai is stepping it up big time. I think they should do it. More affordable power is always good.
Ok the GTR is a supercar and no one can deny that. The viper and ZR1 are supercars as well. And VW can make the veyron, but hyundai can't make one? You guys are ridiculous. Also the engine better have higher torque numbers. I think a twin turbo V8 would work. Also hyundai i believe is the new standard of quality, especially for the price. Ive driven them and man what great quality.

I'm excited to see how this plays out. The Genesis Coupe is actually a really surprisingly impressive sports car, so I think they could make a decent supercar.
Good for them, Hyundai used to suck but now they are a decent car company. Audi used to suck in the 80's and early 90's, but look at them now, they are a great car company.

In the small car divisions. Conversely, the Asians have been working at bringing pickups to the market to get some of the money there.
The Corvette and 911 were mentioned, well, over the years they have kept one upping each other in some way and this has led to the cars we have today. American companies have finally realized they need to step up to compete with Japan and Korea
I'm glad Hyundai is doing this as well as pushing hard in other categories. Maybe this perceived threat will push some of the other companies to step up their programs. It has always been rivalries that have created new thought processes.
Hyundai is trying to compete in every single car category. They came out with the Equus to compete with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Now they are trying to compete with Porsche and Chevy's Z06? They need to hit the brakes.
They rate the genesis coupe and mustang as the two best v6 pony cars, so I think this will be good... Not earth shattering but cool at least

the 911 and gt_r are the only supercars there imo.. and all of those are entry-level at that.
