Rumor: BMW Talks M2 and Future Supercar

The BMW M2 has officially been confirmed to be in early development. In addition, rumors have started regarding a possible BMW supercar.

Besides all of the talk regarding BMW's upcoming front-wheel-drive model lineup, there is a rumor going around that BMW is working on a possible supercar (back to that in a moment). Continuing with reality, we've already known for a few weeks now that the M2 is officially happening and that it will be based on the same F21 platform as the upcoming 2-Series Coupe and Convertible. It will continue with RWD and will likely be released sometime in 2015.

Possible engine options could come from a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo or a more fuel efficient (with similar performance) tri-turbo six-cyldiner engine that would give a very solid output of around 350hp. It could even take the DCT transmission and brakes from the current M3. The M2's formula is also based on that of the current 1-Series M Coupe. More importantly, the new 2-Series will receive its own unique styling from other models, as opposed to Audi's same design, different length habit. The same engine for the M2 will make its debut in a new BMW X3M at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Back to that supercar rumor...for now, no other clear details have been given regarding this, but the rumor claimed BMW would like to build a Lamborghini Aventador rival. We're assuming that this car shouldn't be confused with the upcoming i8 Vision EfficientDynamics. Still, we're a little skeptical about this.
