Previously ignored for its looks, the Kia Optima was not a bad car; just a dull one. As part of the South Korean automaker's design renaissance, this is all about to change. And thanks to former Audi TT designer Peter Schreyer taking over as head of Kia design, the Optima has gone leaps and bounds over anything else Kia has ever done. Kia expects the new Optima to become a benchmark for other automakers in terms of not only its design, but also the fuel efficiency of its four-cylinder engines.
As Kia seeks to gain the high ground in the competitive large mid-size sedan segment in the U.S, the Optima clearly stands out amongst the competition. With its clean look and "Tiger Nose" corporate grille, Schreyer's striking design language will give Kia the injection of style it desperately needs in order to survive.
