From German to Czech: Skoda to Receive Rebadged VW Up!

Many in the States probably have only seen Skodas either in some movie or during a trip abroad to European. It's little know that the Czech automaker is enjoying an upswing in sales too. A new report now indicated that the brand will get a rebadged version of the Volkswagen Lupo/Up! The vehicle will be almost identical to its German relative with only minor styling changes being the main differentiating points.

This means that there will be a revised grille, unique headlights, and modified bumpers. As for power, a variety of engines will be available. Nothing is official yet, but the choices will most likely include a 1.0-liter gas and 1.2-liter diesel with 74-horsepower, as well as a 1.2-liter TSI with 84-hp. Eventually, we can expect an electric-only variant to be launch with electric motors that'll produce 80-hp. The Skoda remains unnamed and will be built in Slovakia and will go on sale in early 2012.
