Comments - Volkswagen May Offer European Jetta in US

Published: Feb 04, 2011
Description: For those who don't already know, Volkswagen's all-new Jetta is not exactly the same for US and European buyers. You see, in order to keep the base price low, VW has cut costs to the US vers...

Tell me about it. Sometimes the things it autocorrects is even more ridiculous. I once misspelled "doesn't" and it gave me "first" WTF? Good thing I caught it, but sometimes I don't catch it
Patrick Schalk Feb 06, 2011
Haha yeah yeah yeah. Sometimes I wanna break this thing
Patrick Schalk Feb 05, 2011
Sorry I meant 4k. My fingers are too fat for the iPhone. Or too quick!
Erik Olsen Feb 05, 2011
Show me one (something modern), vw doesn't have one,
Patrick Schalk Feb 04, 2011
Any AWD turbo manual car that weighs under 3k lbs is good in my book
John Frum Feb 04, 2011
The Golf R is amazing with 4WD, but the Scirocco R is alone sexy hatch.
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
Me too! I'd drive the nuts off a normal gas Golf
Patrick Schalk Feb 04, 2011
Either way I would drive the piss out of both of em
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
But I agree the Scirocco looks better
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
@Patrick The Golf R is 4WD and faster
John Frum Feb 04, 2011
The Euro VWs are better than the American ones, but it probably won't be 24k. More like 20 ish.
Patrick Schalk Feb 04, 2011
I would be happy with either but I think the Scirocco looks better than the Golf. And if it's AWD I will for sure buy one
Anthony Noon Feb 04, 2011
You would buy the sirocco over the golf R?
Kwan Calvin Feb 04, 2011
The GTI is still the best
Patrick Schalk Feb 04, 2011
I'll still buy the Scirocco if it makes here over any other VW. I don't understand the logic of having this AND the passat here
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
Well there you go, the base is about $8k more expensive
DeUahn Wells Feb 06, 2011
That sh*t is gorgeous.
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
That's what everybody has been saying
Kwan Calvin Feb 04, 2011
Quite look like an Audi...
Description: To compare, the US Jetta starts at just under $16,000 and comes with a 5-cylinder base engine. The trade off for the significantly cheaper price is obvious, but for those who are loyal Jetta buyers, w...

@Andy it's a great car I was actually opting for a Mazda3 or a civic but then the new jetta came out at a cheaper price like a couple of weeks later and it looked to good I knew it's what I wanted (x great car
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
@Reinaldo My dad has a base 2011 now too. I must agree. I helped him look for a month and the Jetta was by far the best, which is why he got it I didn't even see in the article that it said it had the I5.
Patrick Schalk Feb 04, 2011
If I were to buy a more luxurious VW sedan I would get the CC. I love those things
Reinaldo Puchu Piñate Feb 04, 2011
I have a 2011 Jetta and the base is actually a 2.0 114hp engine... I have and SE with the 5 cyl 170hp and it feels better than almost anything for that price and looks a hell of Alot better than the old Jetta...
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
But the thing is, this base model is at the top end of our model. So you're getting the most basic car, for nearly the most expensive price. Sure it gets more stuff, but is it really going to be worth it? Have to wait and see
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
As long as the base models stay, I'm fine with that. I can see how VW fans are disappointed so giving them a better, more expensive model makes sense
Description: Kind of ironic now that Ford, GM, and even -gasp! - Chrysler are building much better interiors and VW was previously one of their interior benchmarks. The tables appear to have turned on this one.

I have owned the last 2 versions of the Jetta and currently have a 2.0t Wolfsburg. I will not be owning a 3rd- I have no interest in plastic dashes and 1980 Chevy Citation rear suspension. I have been willing to pay mid 20k for a better car.
Andy Rogers Feb 07, 2011
The plastic in it seems to be nicer than the plastic in Cadillacs. I don't even realize it's plastic until I look at it close enough or feel it. If VW can cut costs and still keep up with everybody else, then everybody needs to step it up even more
Andy Rogers Feb 07, 2011
@Shaun Have you even been in a new Jetta? Yes the interior is worse, but that's like saying the Lambo Gallardo Spyder is slower than the coupe. It's still fast and the Jetta is still pretty nice
Andy Rogers Feb 07, 2011
@Mike I think they are talking about the Euro Focus which we're getting soon. If they aren't then I have no idea what they're talking about
Shaun Rifield Feb 06, 2011
The Ford Focus is a better car in every way. Having messed with one at the Baltimore car show. I can say the interior rocks along with the rest of the car
Mike Hawk Feb 06, 2011
Unless you're talking bout the focus RS, I really don't care about all those crappy US engineered focuses. I'll take the German/Brit RS version anyday
Mike Hawk Feb 05, 2011
I don't really see any tables turned. If VW is upgrading US standards, that just means that the 3 cowboys are back to catching up again.
Czezar Csongor Feb 05, 2011
Answering to the question, I never had major issues with my car...and I still like the style too. When the CC came out, I thought the VW just won another loyal customer...Admirable design. Well I can't say the the same thing after theDetroit Autoshow
Czezar Csongor Feb 05, 2011
The front of the new Passat remind me that of the American Honda Accord, and the taillight of the older version of Kia Optima. And what about the engine...??? Where are the innovations? One cannot even choose the 2.0T engine, what I have right now...
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
I don't see that in the styling Czezar. I see an Audi with Golf headlights. Anyways, how reliable is your VW? If it's had any problems, how many and were they expensive?
Czezar Csongor Feb 04, 2011
I am 100% agree! VW is doing backsteps instead of forward... I own a 2006 Passat, and I thought I will trade in for the new one... But forget about. I don't need a VW Passat which looks like a hybrid of Accord and Kia Optima!
Reinaldo Puchu Piñate Feb 04, 2011
Vw cut back for cheaper cars... Other car makers are making better interiors but they include that I'm the price... And they're still better interiors even more than Mazda or Honda
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
Well VW is still on par or better than it's competitors, considering they cut back and other people improve, that's pretty sad
DeUahn Wells Feb 06, 2011
I don't like the tail lights...everything else is beautiful though
Mike Hawk Feb 05, 2011
It's like people dont know that the jetta and A4 ride on the same platform
Andy Rogers Feb 04, 2011
@Tom Scirocco R? A Scirocco with 260hp (GTI has 200). Or Golf R which has 266 and 4WD!
Taylor Greenfield Feb 04, 2011
@ Philipp actually they are the new A6 ones check them out
Tom Franquelli Feb 04, 2011
Just give us some Scirocco GTI animal or something. That would make me happy. :)
Reinaldo Puchu Piñate Feb 04, 2011
I wish I got those rims on mine ):
Anthony Noon Feb 04, 2011
I was gonna say the same thing, the front and the back look like the current a5
Philipp Kentner Feb 04, 2011
Rear lights look like Audi a4
