And it's not even an American car stereotype that we have slow cars. It's turning. And were starting to do better with that anyways. I'm actually proud of this new age of us supercars because I'm seeing European country car spotters on YouTube finding these cars in London or something. It just shows that people do want cars like this. And thankfully, were not making track supercars anymore.
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
Why don't you explain to me the First SSC to take down the "mighty" gayron, and the older S7 when it had the record. Both American, both had the worlds fastest production car title. So get your head out of your ass about American cars being slow.
Alanda Burroughs Dec 20, 2011
Just to clear things up...the Venom IS an Exige. It uses the front-end of the Lotus, with a custom stretched rear-end to house that huge engine.
Brennon Aucoin Dec 19, 2011
Who cares if it looks like a lotus? It sure doesn't drive like one. 2 great cars and all we have here is "well it looks like a lotus" the Bugatti super sport looks kinda weird but that's not why you want a Bugatti is it? It's on the inside that count
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
, windscreen, dash, cockpit, floorpan, HVAC system, wiper and head lamps. Hennessey Performance and the Venom GT are not associated with Lotus Cars.
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
Straight from Hennessey website. Note: The Hennessey Venom GT design is based on the Lotus Elise / Exige. The Venom GT is created from a base Lotus Elise / Exige and utilizes components including but not limited to the roof, doors, doors, side glass,
Edward Williams Dec 18, 2011
Top gear mag did that ages ago in fact it was 4 issues ago maybe start reading top gear mag more often.
Colin Dzendolet Dec 18, 2011
The SSC looks like it wants to chew your face off
Joel Hayes Dec 18, 2011
@Justin If you actually looked closely you'd see that the headlights are from the old exige not the latest one
Clint Edwards Dec 18, 2011
@Justin I suspect they haven't sued because they SOLD them the body.
Devin Babyn Dec 18, 2011
Justin are you literally retarded?
Buddy Robinson Dec 18, 2011
You guys know the venom is a modified lotus.
Justin Harris Dec 18, 2011
Guys, just in an attempt to start the argument, lotus hasn't sued henessey have they? Rolls Royce did it to that Chinese car company an their car looked less similar to the rolls Royce. The venom looks a lot more like the lotus exige than the Chinese car did to rolls royce. And on top of that THE VENOM GT CAME BEFORE THE NEW EXIGE!! And even on top of that, lotus' new headlight style came after th...
Jason Brower Dec 18, 2011
Also, the chasis isn't from the lotus. The body is, but the underpinnings are all reinforced and many sections are completely new. That's why the chasis doesn't fold under the new power
Austin Roha Dec 18, 2011
Not 3 inches, like almost 3 feet callum
Callum Mckay Dec 18, 2011
Yeah, but the lotus body has been streched 3 inches and its got a tt LS9 that puts out 1200 horses and is capable of making 2000
Austin Bride Dec 18, 2011
It's a lotus BODY on a completely different chassis they just did it to save money to in the design department to have more money for performance
Joe Kelly Dec 18, 2011
The aero is probably one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen
Alan Bradford Cassell Dec 18, 2011
People have swapping motors for years! The venom is my favorite hyper car.
Lou Ordorica Dec 18, 2011
Emperor has no clothes ... the Venom is obviously a Lotus with a big Engine stuffed into it.
Brahim Gudah Dec 18, 2011
Do I have to point out that it is a modified ls9 do Justin doesn't go around telling people the zr1 has 1200hp
Jack Tubio Dec 18, 2011
@Jason: Miftah knew this, he was saying that he shouldn't have to explain it.
Luis A Martinez Dec 18, 2011
In other car websites stupid comments like "it looks like an Elise" would be erased and the commenter would be kicked. ijs
Guillermo Rodriguez Dec 18, 2011
TJ is 100% right A lotus would have the Toyota engine. So therefore it is a Venom GT since it has the LS9
Jason Brower Dec 18, 2011
Separate from the drive train. Making a whole new car would have cost way more and taken tons of time.
Jason Brower Dec 18, 2011
@ Miftah, the venom gt body is a modified lotus exige, so don't be so rude. The venom gt is around 10% lotus parts, including the doors and roof. It was a sensible choice Hennessey made to save time and money designing the parts of the car
Tj Blankenship Dec 18, 2011
It is a modified Lotus body with an LS9.
Miftah Rasheed Amir Dec 18, 2011
What the hell. "looks like a Lotus"? It's a Venom GT! Should I even explain this?
Isaac Albert Dec 18, 2011
It looks like a souped up lotus Elise
Troy Kessler Dec 18, 2011
Both cars are sick obviously but the venom gt all I see is a lotus exige
Justin Santinelli Dec 18, 2011
Looks kinda like a lotus
Nick Mitchell Dec 18, 2011
I love the venom but I prefer it in gray or black
Description: The cars tested are well matched. The SSC Ultimate Aero boasts a 6.3-liter bi-turbo V8 that produces a whopping 1,287hp and 1,112lb-ft of torque, while the Hennessey Venom GT has a 6.2-liter bi-turbo ...

Jordan Smith Dec 18, 2011
There's only 16 Ultimate Aero's? Didn't they have a few at the South Florida Auto Show a few years back?
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
But the bad thing of the SSC no having traction control is that they said it was still spinning tires going 200mph when he floored it. So much power in these cars
Kevin Rehbock Dec 18, 2011
Come on Top Gear, no drag race?
Brahim Gudah Dec 18, 2011
Lol I remember seeing a story when they sold the first venom it was silver and of course it was sold to some dude in Dubai... I'm thinking that at least 10 of the 29 will be sold to the middle east.
Paul Dickey Dec 18, 2011
Why are you even worried about these cars being practical?
Jason Brower Dec 18, 2011
What ssc drivers want. They want a car that they need to take control of; a real manual. There's a big difference between rich people, and rich drivers.
Jason Brower Dec 18, 2011
@Michael, the total lack of electronic interferences is seen as a positive by many. The bugatti coddles the driver and does all the work for them. The makers pride themselves that anyone's grandma could take the car to the grocery. But that's not
Michael Palazzo Dec 18, 2011
I like the looks of the SSC better than the venom, but the SSC doesn't even have antilock breaks or power steering. It's only motive was to beat the Bugattis record making it not practical.
Chris Penza Dec 18, 2011
Mark my words, 10 years from now both these cars will be worth so much more than they are now
Description: Even if Hennessey is confident that the Venom GT can beat the Veyron's record, the SSC has the Tuatara, also captured during the shoot, waiting to do battle. And there's little doubt that it...

Stephen Cobbs Dec 18, 2011
I was hoping they would talk about the Tuatara. I wanna see that car in action.
Shane Heid Dec 19, 2011
@gianni no I drive a not so stock supercharged thunderbird with a five speed that would probably destroy whatever you drive
Alex Leu Dec 18, 2011
not even 0-150...the quarter mile might even be a different story
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
And the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S does 0-60 mph 2.9, and 1/4 in 10.6. SSC, 0-60 mph 2.78, 1/4 mile 9.90. Venom, 0-60 2.5. So how is the Porsche faster again?
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
But how about that 0-150? That is a COMPLETELY different story
Carlos Ernesto Garcia Dec 18, 2011
Yea except the aero loses from 0-60 to a 911 turbo s (2.6 sec). Wich in my opinion is more important than top speed in a street car
Clint Edwards Dec 18, 2011
@Patrick he's just butt-hurt these 2 just raped everything else on the road
Patrick Schalk Dec 18, 2011
Hey, go take another picture of yourself in front of the mirror like a middle school girl.
Gianni Falzone Dec 18, 2011
Watch out, elitist Altima drivers out in full force today!
Shane Heid Dec 18, 2011
Because some people are stupid, personally i can't decide which one I love more
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
I see no lotus in that car. Completely, 100% Yugo design right there.
Kevin Rehbock Dec 18, 2011
*obligatory Lotus comment*
Austin Bride Dec 18, 2011
Every comment containing the word lotus should be deleted from these stories to make the people who actually know what they are talking about quit raging
Clayton Corley Dec 18, 2011
The orange car is the SSC DUH
Isaac Albert Dec 18, 2011
Love the taillights on orange car
Chris Penza Dec 18, 2011
The back of that roof looks like a ctr-3
Daniel Marino Dec 18, 2011
It's based off a lotus
James E Caldwell Dec 18, 2011
Here is the car they copied which was attempting to be an ultimate version of the exige. So much for creativity. ://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/experience/competition/sportexige/sportexige.html
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
LMAO I'm lad you noticed it too
Sebastian Grey Dec 18, 2011
@Jonathan, you spelled ultimate wrong two different ways. That's impressive.
Jonathan Romero Dec 18, 2011
@Ham&cheese, I can agree with you on the lotus personally I think it looks much nicer than the ultamate arrow, but honest in reality that ultamite arrow would murder that lotus, engine wise, that car got alot beef under that hood..
David Harris Dec 18, 2011
I would take tht in red
Shane Heid Dec 18, 2011
I think it's gorgeous.
Garrett Frye Dec 18, 2011
I really don't think it's a bad looking car, and its got badass performance as well. It definitely look better than a veyron
Garrett Frye Dec 18, 2011
But someone saying you have to be on meds to not think it's good looking seems to be saying that it is an amazing looking car, which it really isn't, and that opinion would seem to be formed by the performance of the car more than the looks.
Garrett Frye Dec 18, 2011
@Paul: no, I'm saying a lot of people think just because a car is fast or expensive that means it looks good by default. If people actually think it looks good that's their taste...
Patrick Schalk Dec 18, 2011
I've gone over this time and time again. The Veyron looks like an old man scrotum.
Jason Brower Dec 18, 2011
@Joe 1. You're a troll 2. If you honestly think the Bugatti looks better than anything besides a totaled skoda, you're also blind
Callum Mckay Dec 18, 2011
I think this looks great, its not pretty like a 458, but it works, and thats why it looks good
Joe Kelly Dec 18, 2011
If everyone says it's function over form and looks don't matter then obviously Buggatti is the far superior company considering the SS has better performance and looks 1000x better.
Paul Dickey Dec 18, 2011
@garrett so you're calling people's personal preference of liking this car idiotic?
Miftah Rasheed Amir Dec 18, 2011
I won't argue about the looks. I like it, especially those S7 doors (I forgot what they were called). That's personal preference. But looking at the performance and price, how can you say it's not a good car?
Jason Brower Dec 18, 2011
It brings back images of the raw sports cars of the 90's, especially The mclaren f1
Garrett Frye Dec 18, 2011
I agree on it not being a good looking car. Its function over form, it's not meant to be a pretty car, and thinking it's good looking because of it's performance or price is idiotic. It is damn impressive though
Stephen Cobbs Dec 18, 2011
@Jay What meds are you on?
Jay Kolvenbag Dec 18, 2011
Damn! Thats ugly!!!!!
Roman Pogoretskiy Dec 18, 2011
Aero looks more serious. Love those wheels.
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
Lol Nahh I didnt think you were serious or you just didn't see the sarcasm part.
Justin Harris Dec 18, 2011
Yeah ok, just missing part of the text makes me an idiot... There's no need to start trolling just from someone's mistake. I try not to make comments like that so I can avoid people like you. And just to say it again, sorry for not seeing the sarcasm part.
Brad Hickey Dec 18, 2011
Justin is a lvl 100 idiot
Justin Harris Dec 18, 2011
I guess that message is now for anybody who didn't have sarcasm on XD
Justin Harris Dec 18, 2011
Lol whoops didn't see the sarcasm off at the end XD my bad.
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
I just figured I'd say something about the interior since nobody else has do I decided to be a smartass lol
Austin Bride Dec 18, 2011
Justin he was kidding I think. He said he was sarcastic
Dylan Smith Dec 18, 2011
Not sure but I'm pretty sure Andrew was being sarcastic. He did note at the end of his post *sarcasm off*
Justin Harris Dec 18, 2011
Andrew IT'S A STREET LEGAL RACECAR! You don't see a NASCAR or a Le Mans LMS racecar interior covered in cashmere do you?
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
Dude this interior is so cheap! That is probably cushion they stole from a couch and put it on the dash. I can only see this much but I know this car is horrible on the interior for $1,000,000! *sarcasm off*
Madhav Dutt Dec 23, 2011
Why did they have to name it the tuatara such a lame name When the concert first came out I actually couldn't believe it was American it looks fabulous man
Irvin Munoz Dec 18, 2011
Wow who wood have thought that America could make a car like this.
David Rosenberg Dec 18, 2011
One Is a lotus and second looks like a Lamborghini
Nico Morelli Dec 18, 2011
@clint yes it may have more moving parts but thy take less load and strain than the v8s of the ssc or the venom so it has a longer lifespan, I can crank 4,000 horsepower out of a v8 doesn't mean it's better than a w16 that can produce the same power
Clint Edwards Dec 18, 2011
@Jimmy that's not neccessarily true. If a part moves, it will wear. The more moving parts you have, the less mechanically efficient it is and therefore will wear faster. A W16 has a lot more moving parts than a V8.
Matthew McKernan Dec 18, 2011
It's the tuatutautawaaarrrwaa
Jimmy Smith Dec 18, 2011
Why do F1 car engines need to be rebuilt so often and road cars not so often. F1 cars have the highest horsepower to displacement of all cars and road cars have very little
Jimmy Smith Dec 18, 2011
The reason it has so many more cylinders is because it increases the lifespan of cars engine. It is much less strain on each of the engine parts with a W16 than on a V8 of the same horsepower
Andrew Grimm Dec 18, 2011
But still, the SSC is making the same power, if not more, from half of what the Bugatti uses. Much less inter coolers, less cylinders, half the amount of turbos, and has less of a displacement that the Bugatti.
Kevin Rehbock Dec 18, 2011
In the W16, each side is made up of eight cylinders, but the cylinder bank angle is increased to 90 degrees. The narrow angle of each set of cylinders allows just two overhead camshafts to drive each pair's valvetrain. Meaning two other banks of cylinders are staggered. So it's not just connecting two V8s on one crankshaft, there are complications that VW had to work around.
Johnny Francis Dec 18, 2011
I'm just saying I'd respect one V engine more than a W16. Especially a V8. These make about the same amount of power with half the cylinders and half the turbos.
Jason Anaya Dec 18, 2011
I think this picture was taken where I live because that plane is here and I remember seeing the orange and yellow cars going to Reno
Cody Campbell Dec 18, 2011
Just connected? Ok you build one if that's easy.
Johnny Francis Dec 18, 2011
W16 is essentially 2 v8's just connected. Kinda cheap to be honest.
Garrett Frye Dec 18, 2011
@Erik: 2 motors? What are you talking about? The w16? It's just a different design of engine
Michael Palazzo Dec 18, 2011
tuatra is so much better, it actually has modern electronics
Troy Kessler Dec 18, 2011
The tuatara is just insane looks like a f-22 raptor on wheels
James Himsel Dec 18, 2011
The tuatara looks so futuristic
Stephen Cobbs Dec 18, 2011
Tuatara is the best. White looks better anyways.
