Polar Utility Vehicle Takes On The Frozen Tundra

Designed with harsh conditions in mind, this is a vehicle determined not to leave you stranded.

Is there a better vehicle for arctic exploration than a modified Toyota Hilux? Juha-Pekka Rautio seems to think so, and has given us the Polar Utility Vehicle concept, via Yanko Design. The vehicle is designed to be as simple as possible, with as many of the mechanical components as exposed as possible, making any necessary repairs easy, something which is of the utmost importance when those repairs need to be performed in sub-zero conditions.

The front is designed to have a snow plow attached to it and the rear cargo compartment is designed for snowmobile hauling. There are no plans at the moment to actually build the vehicle, but we think it's an interesting idea, and shows an emphasis on practicality rarely seen in such far-out design studies.
