The 2011 Tokyo Motor Show is seeing plenty of fuel-efficient vehicles, and Mitsubishi’s SUV is one of the standouts.

Mitsubishi has already shown us a PX-MiEV concept, and their second version is quite impressive in terms of fuel-efficiency. The PX-MiEV II concept returns an impressive 141mpg and features a hybrid powertrain. The hybrid powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine along with two 60 kW (equivalent to 81hp) electric motors. When in EV mode, it can travel 31 miles and when the battery begins to be depleted, it automatically switches over to a Series Hybrid mode.

The Series Hybrid mode entails the activation of its gasoline engine which charges the electric engines and works when travelling at low speeds. However, when you speed up on the highway it enters another mode, known by the manufacturer as a Parallel Hybrid Mode. The secondary mode uses all three engines in conjunction, achieving an impressive return of 141.1mpg. Total range is claimed to be at 497 miles.
