Rumored: M550 Diesel to Have 375hp and AWD

Unfortunately it may not see the light of day in the US.

Concrete evidence of the long-rumored 5-Series diesel from BMW's M division has emerged from a BMW dealer presentation in the Netherlands, of all places. The leaked specs indicate the Bimmer will have a tri-turbo six-cylinder diesel at its heart capable of 375hp and 516lb-ft of torque, making it a viable alternative to the BMW 550i (402hp and 440lb-ft); while a document from a new BMW brake pad package displaying the new model code M550dX indicates the M5 diesel will be AWD-only.

M division's global marketing manager Brian Watts has previously confirmed a diesel M5 is under consideration and with this new information coming to light, there's a good chance the M550d could be offered in the F10 sedan and F11 wagon as well as the X5M and X6M SAVs.
