LA 2011: 2013 Mazda CX-5 for the States Shows Up

The U.S.-spec 2013 Mazda CX-5 has just made its debut in LA.

Mazda has just unveiled their new 2013 CX-5 SUV. The American version of the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G 4-cylinder powered model is looking good in LA. The new CX-5 is making use of Mazda's KODO "Soul of Motion" styling and it certainly didn't disappoint the Californian crowd. The engine features direct-injection technology and is the same powertrain already available on the Mazda3 hatchback and sedan. It puts out a solid 155hp and 150lb-ft of torque and is mated to a Skyactiv six-speed automatic or manual transmission.

The Skyactiv technology ensures that the new SUV will keep high fuel-efficiency numbers, bringing in on the automatic 26/32mpg for city/highway and on the manual 33mpg on the highway. These numbers are said to be the best in its class. "The 2013 CX-5 is the vehicle compact SUV shoppers have been asking for - that only Mazda can build," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. "Entering an extremely competitive segment, the all-new CX-5 has to offer more than just flash and features, but also has to perform and provide consumers with the dynamic response they've come to expect from Mazda - and it does."

O'Sullivan continued: "With its SKYACTIV underpinnings and best-in-class fuel economy, CX-5 proves that fun needn't be sacrificed for fuel efficiency and that compact doesn't equate compromise." The 2013 Mazda CX-5 will compete in the U.S. against the Toyota RAV4 and the Kia Sportage.
