LA 2011: 2013 Cadillac XTS

The most technologically advanced production car in Cadillac’s history.

Set to be unveiled at the LA Auto Show later today, Cadillac has at last released details of the 2013 XTS, which features "Art and Science" styling, most notably the sharp, distinctive lines and the evolution of the trademark chrome grille. While focus has clearly been on creating a luxury Cadillac, with a leather wrapped interior and Alcantara headliner, the XTS also delivers plenty of space. Rear seat passengers get 40 inches of legroom (4 more inches than the BMW 5 Series), and the trunk is a massive 18 cubic feet so it can easily swallow five suitcases.

A 3.6-liter V6 producing 300hp and 264lb-ft of torque is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission and the XTS features both front- and all-wheel drive. Technology features strongly throughout Cadillac's newest full-size luxury vehicle, and the chassis benefits from the HiPer Strut suspension on the front, air suspension at the back, Brembo brakes, and Magnetic Ride Control - the world's fastest reacting suspension. Standard 19-inch aluminum alloys with chrome inserts can be upgraded to the 20-inch that come as standard on the top-end Platinum trim.

On the inside, the XTS gets the new CUE infotainment system that features an 8-inch capacitive touch-screen at the center of the dash from where all main controls can be accessed via natural voice recognition. A 12.3-inch reconfigurable cluster also forms part of the system with four different display options, from minimal to extensive information. Electronic safety features include adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, a safety alert driver seat that alerts the driver by vibrating, and front & rear automatic brakes. Gadget fiends and the safety conscious will both be more than impressed with the work that's gone into this Cadillac.

As the latest edition to it luxury sedan range, the 2013 XTS will arrive in showrooms across the US and Canada by the spring of 2012. Pricing information has yet to be announced.
