MINI Countryman Won’t Get JCW For 2012

Fans of the Countryman will just have to wait another year for the JCW version.

As eagerly awaited as the JCW version of the MINI Countryman has been for some, word is now that those who want a bit more grunt in their Countryman will have to wait another year. MINI is planning a refresh for their JCW engine in preparation for the 2013 model year, and it's logical that they didn't see much point in putting out a JCW with the old engine for just one year. The new engine will, as is the trend, be both more powerful and more efficient.

This will be achieved mainly through the addition of BMW's Valvetronic system to the engine, as the current JCW engine lacks variable valve timing. There are likely to be other changes made, but what these might be, or how much power will result, have not yet been disclosed. Hopefully this will all be worth the wait, MINI seems to think it will be.
