Official Report: Chevy's Most Powerful Convertible Ever - The Camaro ZL1

Chevy has released the first photos of their most powerful convertible ever.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has been getting plenty of press lately for its adventures in Germany at the Nurburgring. Aside from setting a great lap time, GM has also been getting ready to show off its newest variant, the Camaro ZL1 convertible at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The ZL1 convertible will share the coupe's powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine that can crank out 580hp and 556lb-ft of torque.

This will be Chevrolet's most powerful convertible ever and it will have more muscle than the 2012 Aston Martin DB9 Volante and the Porsche 911 Turbo S. The Ford Shelby GT500 cranks out 550hp, and even that falls flat compared to the souped-up Chevy convertible. "The Camaro ZL1 convertible will be one of the most powerful and most capable, convertibles available at any price. This is a car that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drop the top - or hit the gas," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer in a press release. The ZL1 convertible will also offer GM's Performance Traction Management.

To handle all the added power in a convertible, Chevy will give the ZL1 a front X brace and a rear V brace along with transmission support reinforcement brace. The Camaro ZL1 coupe is set to launch early next year. The convertible variant will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month and GM should have more details then on its availability.
