Report: Porsche 918 Racer to Debut in Detroit

With the North American International Auto Show just around the corner, we're beginning to get a clearer picture as to what Porsche has in store for its grand return to Detroit. Although Porsche has skipped out on the show for the past few years, they seem to be making up for their absence with the debut of "something spectacular," according to a Porsche official. Not long ago, we predicted this new car may in fact be the next generation 911.

This could still be true, but according to a report from AutoBild, a wildcard option has now appeared. They claim there'll be a coupe version of the 918 Spyder concept, but in racing mode. Sound unlikely? Perhaps not. Porsche could enter the 918 in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, so a coupe is possible. The fact that Porsche is returning to the Detroit show is news enough and with several new products, such as the new 911, Boxster and Cayman redesigns, and a small SUV called the Cajun on the horizon, who knows what we'll see in a few days.
