Detroit 2011: 2013 Ford C-Max Energi and C-Max Hybrid

We already know that the 2012 Ford C-Max is set to have its launch in North America later this year, but the story of the C-Max doesn't end there. Ford is bringing two more versions of its MPV to the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, the C-Max Energi and C-Max Hybrid. The gas powered C-Max with sliding doors will be based on the Grand C-Max that's being sold in other markets, but the Hybrid and Energi will use front-hinged rear doors like the C-Max in Europe.

But door styles aside, the C-Max Hybrid will use Ford's next-generation gas/electric powertrain technology, yielding a fuel economy of higher than the 41 mpg currently offered by the Fusion Hybrid. The bigger story is the C-Max Energi, which is a range-extended plug-in hybrid, similar to the Chevy Volt. Ford's targeting an overall range of more than 500 miles using both the battery-powered motor and Atkinson-cycle engine. Both models will be built at Ford's Michigan plant starting in 2012.
