US Will Get The Golf R

Volkswagen has finally announced that the US will be getting a replacement for the R32. That replacement will come in the form of the Golf R, a model which is already available in Europe. There won't be a 3.2-liter VR6 in the Golf R, rather a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder. European-spec models of the Golf R are putting out 270 horsepower, and while this might also be the figure for the US model, it isn't yet official.

It is known that the Golf R will feature VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive, along with 18-inch wheels and upgraded brakes and suspension. There will be a new center-exit dual exhaust, and plenty of little touches on both the interior and exterior to differentiate the R from the regular Golf. You can get yours with either two or four doors, but get ready for the best part: it is only available with a manual transmission!
