VWs Mid-Engine Future

There's been plenty of speculation lately surrounding the future of mid-engined sports cars in the Volkswagen family. Some sites out there have pointed to two different mid-engine platforms currently in development within the gigantic Volkswagen empire. One is a longitudinally-mounted engine layout and the other has a transverse engine design. A number of vehicles could even end up based off the VW BlueSport concept.

It's being said that this chassis could also provide the structure for vehicles like a Porsche 914 or 356 successor, as well as a new Audi racer. For those of us who aren't too familiar with what a longitudinal design is, it's the platform called MSS that the guys at Audi AG showed off. The chassis could underpin everything from the next R8 to the Lamborghini Gallardo successor and the Porsche 918. It may even form the mold for what's to come from the void left by the Murcielago.
