Lincoln To Get Ford Kuga-Based CUV?

In case you're unfamiliar with the Ford Kuga, it's a small CUV sold in Europe that should have replaced the Escape back in 2007, but Ford ditched the idea due to the high dollar-Euro exchange rate. Now that a new Kuga is in development and is based on the same platform as the upcoming 2012 Focus and Grand C-Max, Ford is also considering to develop a new Lincoln Kuga-based premium small CUV. The currently unnamed Lincoln is being positioned to compete against the Lexus RX in terms of both size and packaging.

If this report is true, then it would confirm comments made just last week by Ford CEO Alan Mulally that the automaker is committed to helping Lincoln expand its lineup. Other competitors would include the new BMW X3, Acura RDX, and the Cadillac SRX, so a mid $30,000 base price should be expected.
