RUMOR: Mazda RX-9 Will Be Revealed At The Tokyo Motor Show

Please be true this time.
It should be noted that none of the websites cite any sources, so you should take these details with a pinch of salt for now. According to the media sites, the RX-9 will take its styling cues from the stunning RX-Vision Concept and will be powered by Mazda’s recently patented rotary engine which flips the layout 180 degrees. By placing the exhaust ports at the top of the engine, this engine layout would accommodate the turbocharger more easily. Output is rumored to be over 400 hp, while the overall weight is said to be between 2,866 pounds (1,300 kg) and 2,976 pounds (1,350 kg). As for the price, sources suggest the RX-9 will sell for 8 million - 10 million yen, which converts to around $70,000 - $90,000.
If true, this would make it the most expensive Mazda on sale, but it would undercut its Japanese sports car rivals like the Nissan GT-R by a significant margin. Mazda has also hinted about the rotary engine making a comeback at the Tokyo Motor Show in the latest issue of its Zoom Zoom newsletter. “And the story’s not over yet. Without the rotary engine, there would probably be no Mazda. And without Mazda, the rotary engine certainly wouldn’t have been in production for nearly 50 years.” This would coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Mazda Cosmo which introduced the rotary engine, but the automaker's CEO has previously denied plans to make a new sports car, so we probably shouldn’t get our hopes up.
